TEAM HISTORY
The Silicon Valley Expos, formerly the Silicon Valley Diamondbacks, and originally the Silicon Valley Pirates, were formed in 2000 as one of the first few teams in the SVABL, a 28+ league at the time. For the first three seasons, the Pirates struggled to achieve success beyond a big playoff upset they pulled over the top ranked Rockies in the 2002 playoffs.
In 2003, the Pirates merged with the San Mateo Baseball Club of the San Francisco Roberto Clemente League. The combined best players from the two teams caused the new Pirates to become a league power, culminating in an SVABL Championship in the 2005 season - incidentally the first season in which the SVABL had dropped to an 18+ league.
After their 2005 championship, the drop in league age started to take its toll on the Pirates as their players aged but the league got younger, and their win total dropped year after year as the team struggled to adapt to the league's youth movement.
In 2010, the team was tired of its recent losing, so they changed their name to the Silicon Valley Diamondbacks to reform the team in a new and fresh image. The team improved year after year at this point, reaching the Valley Division Championship in 2013, but losing a hard fought final game.
In 2014, the Diamondbacks joined the Webb (30+ Wood Bat) Division and despite losing several of their best players from the previous season, they celebrated their first year in the new division with a Webb Division Championship! This was their second title in team history, their first as the Diamondbacks, and the team's first title in nine seasons!
In 2017, ready for another reboot, the Diamondbacks decided to change to the Expos for their 18th season in the SVABL, and come back hungry to regain the 30+ Division crown.
